Occupational health and safety has become a central governance issue, driven by regulatory pressure, workforce expectations, and increased accountability for senior management. Since replacing OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001 has shifted OH&S management toward a stronger risk-based, leadership-driven, and operationally integrated model. Auditors are expected to verify not only documentation, but the effectiveness of controls protecting workers in real conditions.
This training is designed for professionals who must audit OH&S Management Systems in environments where hazards, legal obligations, and operational risks vary widely. Participants learn how to interpret ISO 45001 requirements through an auditor’s lens, translating clauses into audit criteria and testing whether OH&S risks are identified, controlled, and monitored effectively.
Throughout the course, participants follow the full audit lifecycle: audit initiation, stage 1 and stage 2 audits, on-site activities, interviews with workers and management, and evaluation of corrective actions. Particular attention is given to risk-based auditing, contractor and worker participation, operational control effectiveness, and compliance obligations.
Abilene Academy’s approach reflects real audit conditions. Practical exercises are built around realistic OH&S scenarios drawn from industrial, construction, service, and public-sector environments. Role-playing prepares participants to manage audit teams, communicate difficult findings, and maintain auditor independence under pressure.
The course concludes by addressing audit programme management and auditor competence, enabling participants to act not only as auditors, but as credible audit leaders within OH&S governance structures.
