EU AI Act Training & Certification: The Complete 2026 Guide

Understand the phased deadlines, who is in scope (including Swiss companies), and the ISO/IEC 42001 and AI risk-management certifications that get your organisation ready for 2 August 2026.

The EU AI Act, for compliance leaders

Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, the EU AI Act, is the world's first horizontal AI law. Its core high-risk and transparency obligations apply from 2 August 2026, with prohibited-practice bans already in force and general-purpose AI rules live since August 2025. For CISOs, DPOs and Heads of Compliance the practical question is not whether it applies, but which of your AI systems are high-risk and how you will demonstrate conformity in time.

This hub brings together Abilene Academy's EU AI Act guidance, the certifications that build the required competence (Lead AI Risk Manager and the ISO/IEC 42001 pathway), and the most common questions we hear from Swiss and EU organisations preparing for the deadline.

Who is affected

The Act applies to providers and deployers of AI systems placed on the EU market or whose outputs are used in the EU, regardless of where the organisation is established. That extraterritorial reach captures many non-EU firms, Switzerland included.

Switzerland

In scope where AI systems are placed on the EU market or outputs are used in the EU (Art. 2). Switzerland is also preparing domestic AI rules aligned with the Council of Europe AI Convention.

United Kingdom

UK firms serving EU customers or whose AI outputs are used in the EU fall within scope on the same extraterritorial basis.

Two complementary routes prepare organisations for the Act: an AI risk-management track for governance and oversight, and the ISO/IEC 42001 track for building an auditable AI management system. Most compliance functions need both capabilities.
