The ISO/TS 31050 Emerging Risks Manager training runs over two days. The certification exam is a separate two-hour session, and at Abilene Academy the same two-day format is available onsite in Morges, as virtual live training, or as self-study.
The course is a two-day programme. Day one moves from the foundational concepts of emerging risk into the ISO/TS 31050 risk management process, so you first learn to tell an emerging risk apart from a conventional one before you try to manage it. Day two is applied, taking a sample emerging risk through scope, assessment, treatment and the monitoring and resilience measures that follow.
The exam is not counted inside the two teaching days. It is a separate two-hour session in a multiple-choice format, with a passing score of 70 percent, and it can be taken online through PECB. Building the exam in as a distinct step is deliberate, since it lets the two days stay focused on working through the process rather than on test drill.
Exercises and short quizzes run throughout both days rather than clustering at the end, so you test your grasp of each stage before the next one builds on it. The design reflects what the material demands, because emerging risk work is a set of judgement calls under uncertainty, and judgement is built by practising on examples rather than by listening.
Abilene Academy offers the same two-day course in three formats: in person in Morges, virtual live for remote participants, and self-study for those who prefer to work at their own pace. The teaching time is the same across all three, so the choice is about how you want to attend rather than how much course there is.
“Two days is enough because we are not teaching theory. We are drilling judgment on real cases, and judgment is built by deciding, not by listening.”

The PECB ISO/TS 31050 Emerging Risks Manager certification proves you can identify, assess and treat emerging risks using ISO/TS 31050 inside an ISO 31000 process. It qualifies you to run an emerging risk programme in a risk, resilience or governance role, and to give a board a credible read on exposure that cannot yet be quantified.

An emerging risk is a threat that is developing but not yet well understood, with no reliable history to estimate how likely it is or how hard it will hit. A conventional risk is already known and can be measured against past data. The difference matters because standard risk tools tend to overlook emerging risks until they are already causing damage.
