Compare each changed ISO 9001:2026 requirement with your current processes and records, classify it as new, revised, reorganized or unchanged, and note whether you already meet it. Give every gap an owner, a date and the evidence that will close it, then verify through an internal audit and management review before the transition audit.
A gap analysis for ISO 9001:2026 is not a rewrite of the QMS. It starts from what already works and asks, clause by clause, whether the current process and its records meet the new text. Several requirements that were not explicit in ISO 9001:2015, such as an objective for each internal audit, may already be part of everyday practice.
Work through the changed clauses and classify each as new, revised, reorganized or unchanged. For each one, record the existing process, the records that would evidence it, the gap if any, and who owns the fix. The heaviest items are usually quality culture and ethical behavior, the separate treatment of risks and opportunities, planning of changes, organizational knowledge and management review inputs.
Turn the gaps into a transition plan with owners, deadlines and evidence targets, and sequence document, process and training updates so they are in use before the audit. Then run a full internal audit against the 2026 text and take the results to management review. Time the plan against the 30 September 2029 transition deadline and your certification body's schedule.

ISO 9001:2026 splits clause 6.1 into 6.1.1 to 6.1.3 so that risks and opportunities are determined, evaluated and acted on separately. Performance evaluation and management review must look at the effectiveness of actions on each. One planning tool can still cover both; two registers are not required.
The PECB Certified ISO 9001 Transition credential shows you understand the differences between ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 9001:2026 and can plan and implement the changes in a QMS. It requires a one-hour multiple-choice exam with a 70% pass mark and no professional experience.
