Course Description

The EU Artificial Intelligence Act, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, is the first structured legal framework for AI in the world. Its obligations apply in stages through 2026 and beyond, and the EU Data Act, applicable since September 2025, adds rules on data access, use, and sharing. Providers, deployers, and importers must now show evidence of compliance before a regulator asks for it. Organizations outside the EU fall in scope once their AI systems reach the European market or their outputs are used there, which puts Swiss companies with EU customers under the same obligations.

Over five days, participants start with applicability. They define the boundaries of each AI system, determine whether their organization acts as a provider, a deployer, or another operator, and screen for prohibited practices. Day 2 covers risk classification, GPAI model mapping, governance and accountability, the AI quality management system, and the risk management system. Day 3 addresses data governance, data protection impact assessment, technical measures against AI-specific vulnerabilities, documentation and record-keeping, human oversight, AI literacy, and conformity assessment with CE marking. Day 4 covers provider registration, fundamental rights impact assessment, notification duties, incident reporting, and the continuous compliance cycle. Day 5 is the certification exam.

The course targets the points where compliance programs stall. The provider or deployer distinction changes which obligations apply, and many organizations never settle it in writing. Documentation tends to be incomplete when an audit arrives, and responsibility scatters across legal, technical, and business teams. Participants practice assigning who decides a system’s classification, which evidence a regulator will request, and how to run AI Act and Data Act requirements together rather than as two separate projects.

Participants leave able to determine whether the AI Act applies to their systems, design a governance and compliance framework with defined roles, controls, and oversight, and track compliance across the AI life cycle. They sit the three-hour PECB Certified EU AI Governance Professional exam, which covers five competency domains, receive more than 400 pages of training materials, and earn an attestation worth 31 CPD credits.

    • Determine the applicability of the AI Act to an AI system, a use case, and the organization’s operator role
    • Classify AI systems by risk level and map the obligations that apply to each class
    • Design an AI governance framework with defined accountability, policies, controls, and oversight
    • Establish the technical documentation, evidence, and registration file the AI Act requires
    • Conduct a fundamental rights impact assessment and a data protection impact assessment
    • Align AI Act obligations with the data access and sharing rules of the EU Data Act
    • Manage monitoring, reporting, and continual improvement of AI compliance

Professional Testimonials

★★★★★
“Had a great experience learning with Abilene Academy, it has been an extremely long time since I have attended an external formal training outside of the business organization I work in. I found this training to be truly beneficial for me to attend. the overall delivery of the course by Henri was superb, he kept us well engage despite having half of the room online and half face to face. The communication from the advisors from the initial enquiry regrading the course up until now has also been great! definitely recommending to my colleagues. Thank you!”
